In 2023 GWIRE devoted its efforts to supporting sister society women’s events.
AsRES
The women of AsRES held a breakfast meeting 14 July, 2023 at the AsRES annual conference in Hong Kong organized by Dr. Yi Wu, University of Reading, and Dr. Ervi Liusman, Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr. Wu served as moderator for the session that featured Dr. Rose Neng Lai, Professor in Finance and Dean of the Honours College at the University of Macau. Dr. Lai’s topic was “Making a 5-year Career Plan” that was targeted toward the audience was mostly comprised of doctoral students and assistant professors. Colliers International sponsored the breakfast.
AfRES
The AfRES Women in Surveying and Real Estate group held a dinner at the AfRES conference in Nairobi, Kenya, 12-15 September, 2023. The event was tagged 21st Century Woman, Collaborating to Aid Sustainability in Real Estate. Among the topics that were discussed are: (1) Preparation and what it takes to assume leadership roles, (2) Experiences and benefits of successful mentorship, and gaining career stability in the surveying and real estate profession. Ms. Esther Thontteh, University of Lagos, and Ms. Catherine Kariuki, University of Nairobi, were the key organizers of the event sponsored by the RICS.
